This past October, the ITE Quebec chapter along with our student chapter had the pleasure of meeting with the ITE Canada executive when they were in Montreal for their annual meeting. Our executive team, Quebec chapter representative, and ITE Quebec student chapter members met with the ITE Canada executive members at Concordia University for a round table like discussion about transportation engineering, ITE and discussions about the student chapters. It was a wonderful experience to hear about the different projects, challenges and day-to-day work from professionals from different parts of Canada with different backgrounds and knowledge in the field of transportation engineering. The ITE Canada representatives also heard our thoughts about the industry, our research and our student chapter and gave us suggestions to continue to promote the field of transportation engineering and ITE.
Following the discussion period and lunch, Atkins-Réalis delivered an insightful presentation at their Montreal office focusing on transportation mobility by highlighting their involvement with the new REM project. Covering the projects’ inception to its completion, the presentation showed both its challenges and advantages and provided an invaluable look into the making of a new transit system. This was a unique opportunity for students to learn about a significant project and get an insight into a section of transportation engineering, and for our cross-Canada representatives to hear about the Montreal transportation projects.
Finally, we had a networking cocktail, where many members of ITE Quebec and our student chapter met and enjoyed drinks with the ITE Canada Executive. We had such a good time getting to know all the executives and to hear their perspectives and suggestions professionally and for ITE.
