PRIMARY PURPOSE
Provides senior leadership and engineering expertise to Wayside Engineering team and Skytrain asset management in the designated disciplines to support rail transportation service delivery within an integrated, multi-jurisdictional environment. The role enhances productivity, asset life cycle cost effectiveness, safety and reliability of the systems, and customer experience. The role supports the Director in translating business goals into long and short-term strategies and plans for asset maintenance, project delivery and engineering team building.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Participates as a member of the department leadership team, supporting the Director in development of department plans, and sharing accountability for department achievements. Leads the development of business unit goals, objectives, plans, and budgets in support of Engineering strategies and objectives. Manage and coordinates, through subordinate level staff and Lead Engineers, the work plans, processes, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the various Engineering Disciplines.
Provides strategic guidance to the Business Unit, develops and oversees the rolling 5-year Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP), lifecycle Asset Management Plan, Asset Renewal Plan. Collaborates with Asset Integration Office (AIO) in the preparation of a rolling 5-year planning forecast for CAPEX projects. Works with Maintenance Teams to ensure the periodicities of maintenance cycles, approved standards, specifications, and procedures meet TransLink and BCRTC service plan, performance expectations and customer experience.
Provides senior leadership to asset life cycle management and practices through life cycle planning, cost and performance analysis, RAMS and FRACAS management, KPIs and Metrics utilizing effective asset management systems.
Provides senior level leadership and engineering expertise to support the maintenance division through innovation, day-to-day solutions in the pursuit of continuous improvement. Responsible as the Center of Discipline Engineering Competency for respective assets and acts as the authority over asset configuration and engineering change control process. Provides Engineering project support to AIO through a Service Level Agreement.
Provides senior level leadership in supporting strategic planning and alignment, technical oversight, risk management, problem solving and decision making for Capital Project delivery from the Engineering side.
Provides leadership and expertise in electrical, mechanical and facilities discipline to the team, and provides leading engineering practices to the team to solve problems.
Represents Business Unit in the development of positive and productive relationships with key stakeholders and others such as regulatory agencies, professional/industry associations, academic institutions, vendors, and service providers.
Ensures Business Unit readiness to identify and mitigate critical risks and to leverage emerging opportunities, alerting the BCRTC senior management team and recommending strategic action that may impact achievement of results.
Provides broad direction, coaching development, and performance management for reporting members, and oversees Business Unit practices, ensuring adherence to best practice in people management. Ensures Business Unit is appropriately staffed to address service needs and achieve business goals.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The requirements for this position would be acquired through a Bachelors in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with P. Eng designation, plus 8 + years’ years of progressively responsible senior leadership experience in engineering and asset management of rail transit system, preferably in an automatic train control environment.

Expert analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to breakdown complex business problems and develop recommendations.
Expert time management and organizational skills to balance and coordinate effort across multiple, concurrent activities.
Excellent executive presence, business partnering, and interpersonal communication skills.
Expert financial acumen to allow for effective planning, management, and expenditure of operational and capital costs.
Other Information
Wayside Engineering is responsible for providing engineering services for Skytrain Integrated Railway Network asset maintenance and capital project delivery in specified areas including Power Supply and Distributions (Stations and Propulsion Power Stations), UPS, Tunnel Ventilation Systems, Sump Pump system, Railway Trackwork, Elevating Devices, Facility Mechanical systems, Civil and Structure system, etc.
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Rate of Pay
Salary $117,600 – $176,400 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
